CURRENT EXHIBIT

In April we present "Wood Fired Raw Clay" a show based on the completed works of teachers and students from the Penland School of Craft eight week course based on engaging the use of locally dug clay bodies to explore the relationship between materials, process, and expression, with class members testing and sharing results. Teachers Michael Hunt, Naomi Dalglish, & David Stuempfle assisted by Josh Copus and Maya Machin. Guest instructors will include ceramics materials engineer Takuro Shibata The show opens on April 26th with a reception including a slide show and lecture..

UPCOMING EXHIBITS

In May we present (POTRx3) "Potters of The Roan in Triplicate" A unique pottery show featuring artists from the group Potters of the Roan, Bakersville, NC. including Mark Peters. Suze Lindsay, Kent McLaughlin, Melissa Cadell, Ron Slagle, Gay Smith, Shane Mickey, Ken Sedberry, Michael Hunt, Stanley Mace Andersen, Liz Zlot Summerfield, David Ross, Jerilyn Virden and Terry Gess. This show features one of a kind works from each artist that embodies variations of the triplicate theme. The show opens with a reception the evening of May 24th.

In June we present a special exhibit by Barbara Webster. Barbara is known for her quilts made from photographs and this exhibit will feature quilts made from photographs of the Roan Mountain Rhododendron in full bloom. While most people think of Barbara as a quilt maker, she likes to point out that she is a photographer first. Barbara starts by taking the pictures with a digital camera. There are at least three people involved in each quilt – the photographer and quilt maker, the printer, and the machine quilter. Because of this, there is a certain unpredictable dynamic to each quilt. Barbara has made a set of beautiful and colorful small quilts for this special exhibition and we are excited to be able to offer this delightful exhibit throughout the month of June and in conjunction with Bakersville’s Rhododendron Festival.
