The works of Liz Summerfield are small and intimate in size. Her handheld objects are constructed with slabs that softly drape over one aother creating three-dimensional drawings throughout the surfaces of the pieces. She draws inspiration from her own personal collectibles. And, as with many collections, she strives to imbed her works with a sense of nostalgia, memory, and past time.
Sarah Faulkner began her artistic journey as a woodworker and sculptor. Her exploration in two-dimensional work began in Santa Fe, New Mexico and today the spirit and tranquility of the mountains of Western North Carolina continues to inspire and infuse her unique acrylic and wax paintings.
For this show, new forms arise from Liz Summerfield's current influences. Her objects are still rooted in utility, but this exhibition will expand that definition of function. Expect a room full of playful and heartfelt objects that are greatly complimented by the two dimensional collages and paintings of Sarah Faulkner.
Sarah Faulkner will explore the use of collage and wax in her paintings. The work will reflect the simplicity and repetition found in the patterns of nature.
This show opens Sept. 4th at 10am both online and in the gallery, Artist Reception is also Sept 4th. at 6pm.
